Updating Insulation
After you have a Home Performance with Energy Star audit conducted by Renewable Resource Systems, it may indicate that you need to upgrade the level of your insulation in your home. Insulation slows heat transmition through a buildings floor, walls, ceilings or roof. Heat transmission is the average homes leading cause of winter heat loss. It can also reduce heat radiation, as illustrated by the photos shown here, in a typical unconditioned attic space, where summer’s heat can easily drive attic temperatures to +120 degrees, and reduce the effectiveness of your air conditioning (and increase your electric bills!).

Renewable Resource Systems has the expertise to insulate any area of your home and match the appropriate insulation type (fiberglass, blown cellulose..etc) for the right application. With summer approaching, we suggest our clients consider upgrading unconditioned attic spaces and the duct work supporting the air conditioning distribution system, with a combination of blown cellulose inside rigid insulation panels. This combination will not only retard heat flow (loss in winter, penetration in summer) by increasing the R-value of your insulation, but also greatly reduce the absorption of moisture by insulation (Absorbed water decreases the R value of insulation and can cause mold problems).

By insulating your duct work with this combination of blown cellulose enclosed in rigid insulation panels, you also gain important attic storage space and eliminate the concerns of dealing with loose blown insulation (dealing with repairs if roof leaks, access to fixtures, general mess...). We also design similar systems to insulate attic hatch doors to stops drafts and unwanted air flow from the attic into your living space.

Increasing your families comfort, and reducing energy usage and cost are the results you will realize by taking prudent insulation steps like these at your home.
